Brendan Boyle of Norton, MA won the 2019 addition of the Taunton YMCA Turkey Trot, and right behind him was Providence's, Rachel Schilkowsky, who captured the ladies crown. Brendan's time of 27:21.9 and Rachel's 27:37.48 was three minutes ahead of the the rest of the field. Ryan Lyesiuk of Gardner,MA and Fernando Silveira from close by Pawtucket, RI rounded out the top three men.
Mary Cass of Westport, MA finished seventh overall and her time of 33:24.6 nailed down second overall for the ladies, and first place in the ladies 50 to 59 age group. Third overall for the ladies was Kay Nickerson of Raynham, MA. Kay's time was 34:53.63.
As a side note, Rachel Schilkowsky has qualified for the February USA Ladies Olympic Marathon Trials. In speaking with Rachel, she is still undecided about competing in the trials. She is looking towards returning to the track, and focusing on shorter distances on the road. She would not relish the idea of training for a marathon in New England winter weather. Don't blame her a bit.
It was also good to see some of the old road warriors in the likes of Mike Norton, Steve Dutra, Dave LeClair, Steve Warren, Tom Stracqualursi, Kevin McCarthy, Jean Rainwater, and John Santillo, just to name a few, at this years race.
The Y staff did their usual great job in putting on the race. As always the Y welcomed the runners and walker with open arms, and into a great facility.
