The Acushnet Road Race provides something for all running families and runner of all ages. At 9AM, the on school 3/4 mile Back to School Challenge for kids age 12 and unders starts off the morning activities. Kids pay a small entry fee of $5.00, and this also allows them entry into either the 3.2 mile walk or the 4.1 mile run. Kids must indicate if they are going to enter into the walk or run on the application or on line sign up form.
A 3.2 mile walk starts at 9:30AM. The top three male and female finisher receive medals. It is an out and back course that finishes at the school.
The 4.1 mile run starts at 10AM. The course is designed with both the top runners, and beginning runners in mind. Sharp downhills and downhills great the runners within the first mile and a half. The next mile really lets the runner cruise and air it out by providing a nice downhill run. Mile three rolls a little, and then mile four into the finish is slightly uphill.
The open team competition is the hallmark of the race. The top three men and women's team run for the money. The Overall male and female winners are awarded the top trophy. Age group awards go three deep, and Acushnet runners vie for the top three male and female overall for bragging rights in town.
Food and refreshments are available in the festive courtyard. Music is provided while runners and families enjoy pizza, watermellon, and the ever popular Acushnet Creamery Ice Cream.
