Course Record at Fort Phoenix 5K Road Race Sept. 1o, 2017

Brookline's, Heather Cappello set a new course record in a time of 17:36.36.   This broke the existing record set by JoAnn Mathews in 2006 of 18:08.

Heather's 5:41 per mile pace had her as the 3rd top finisher overall.

Lauren Fereshetian of Marion was second to Heather, While former winners Anne Preisig of Falmouth, and JoAnn Mathews of Dartmouth were 3rd and 4th.

Michael Vaz

Former UMASS standout, Michael Vaz captured the overall title at the 2017 Fort Phoenix.   His 5:20 per mile pace was enough to hold off New Bedford's, Corey Gibney.

Jimmy Gray

#53 on your score card, but #1 in North Providence, RI is the 75 year old tar pounder, Jimmy Gray.   Jimmy sent Marty Flinn of New Bedford, and Donald "Doc" Clukies of Portsmouth, RI home crying by taking the 70 and over age group at the 2017  4.1 Mile Acushnet Road Race.  We're talking by three minutes.

Corey Gibney

Running second to Michael Vaz at Fort Phoenix 5K was New Bedford's Corey Gibney.  These two know each other very well.  Look for some down to the wire finishes from these two in the future.
